drupa 2016 reports strong Asian presence

June 14, 2016

Asia accounts for 17% of total visitor numbers, up 3.4% from 2012.

The percentage of international visitors at drupa is at 76%, up 16% from the 2012 edition. Asian delegates made up 17% of the percentage. This is an increase from a reported 13.6% at the previous drupa.

India took the largest share of the percentage at 5%, as China followed close behind at 3%. The leading European countries were Italy, France, the Netherlands and the UK.

“This means that drupa has enhanced its global market significance and its international rating even further. It is the unrivalled global No. 1 trade fair for the print and media industries,” said Werner Matthias Dornscheidt, president & CEO, Messe Düsseldorf.

In 2012, India also represented the largest Asian visitor group at a recorded 15,000.

Additionally, India exhibitors reported strongest exhibitor numbers to date, taking up 48 stands at drupa. India exhibitors include machine manufacturers such as Manugraph and TPH, packaging giants including Uflex, die-makers such as Diehard Dies, consumable companies Mahalaxmi, RubTech, Imagico and paper mills such as Deevya Shakti Paper Mills.

drupa reported approximately 260,000 visitors from 188 countries and some 1,900 journalists from 74 countries were in attendance. This presents a drop in visitors; in 2012, drupa had 314,248 visitors.

While overall visitor number has dropped, decision-makers is said to be extremely high at 75%. According to Messe Düsseldorf, approximately 75% of all visitors are executives and in a decisive and or co-decisive capacity when it comes to capital expenditure in their companies.

“Customers – with very few exceptions – no longer come with large delegations or as part of a company outing to drupa. It is rather the top managers that travel to Düsseldorf today, and from 188 countries, to this drupa,” explained Dornscheidt.

Other indicators to highlight the success of drupa include:

• 54% of visitors came to drupa 2016 with concrete investment intentions
• 29% placed orders during drupa
• 30% are planning to place their orders after drupa
• 60% found new suppliers at drupa

The drupa visitor survey also revealed a rosy outlook on the print industry: one in two visitors expected their companies’ business to develop very well over the next twelve months.
