Inaugural ORIS Flex Pack Awards Winners Announced
In the lead-up to drupa, CGS Publishing Technologies organised its first ORIS Flex Pack Awards
The aim of the competition is to acknowledge the creativity of current customers of the ORIS Flex Pack // Web system, while showcasing the quality and capabilities of the solution. The winning entries were on full display at the CGS booth at drupa.

With 274 installations worldwide, the ORIS Flex Pack // Web system has firmly established itself in the market when it comes to producing highly accurate packaging proofs and mock-ups. The unique solution leverages on specially developed XG inks, a broad media portfolio and the ability to print on almost any printing substrate, to produce even the most demanding packaging proofing needs.
“In the past, producing dummies were a difficult and time-consuming process. Most were not colour-accurate. Flex Pack // Web allows the same colour precision for mock-ups and proofs,” said Heiner Muller, key account director for Europe, CGS.
The biggest eye-catcher at the CGS booth, produced by Schawk in Goslar, Germany.
“The key is the ORIS transfer media, which can be printed upon and then transferred to any substrate common in packaging, including metal. The material is so flexible that it can, for instance, be transferred onto sheet metal and subsequently be processed on the regular finishing line, such as deep-drawn and molded.”
The ORIS Flex Pack // Web system has installations across the whole production chain, ranging from design agencies, brand owners, mock-up producers, pre-press companies to printers. Amongst the printers are flexo, offset and gravure printers and as of late, metal printers.
The competition was held without stringent specifications to allow maximum creativity. All ORIS Flex Pack//Web system users worldwide were eligible for entry and each company were allowed to submit more than one entry.
All submissions were anonymised to allow for neutral evaluation. The panel of jurors responsible for viewing and judging the anonymous entries were the competent laboratory engineers of the technology centre of the German Flexo Association, DFTA, at the Media University in Stuttgart, headed by Professor Dr. Martin Dreher.

The first ORIS Flex Pack Awards produced 12 winning entries, across four categories: Flexible Packaging, Carton Printing, Labels and Speciality Packaging.
One of the winners of the competition was iMSGroup, who took home five out of the 12 awards meted out. iMSGroup has offices in eight countries across Europe and Asia Pacific, including Sydney, Singapore, Shanghai and India.
Andrew Gale, technical director of iMSGROUP was quoted as saying: “This is a tremendous achievement for our team. We work hard to meet the needs and demands of our clients and winning these prizes is a real testament to the quality of the work we produce. CGS’s ORIS Flex Pack // Web software gives us cutting-edge mock-up and packaging proof capability, so our clients can really see and experience their brand coming to life,”
“The winning entries represent the type of high-quality, innovative works that our customers are able to produce everyday with the ORIS Flex Pack //Web system. We’re incredibly proud of the range of entries we received, and pleased that we are able to recognise the creativity of our customers,” added Christoph Thommessen, sales director for Asia Pacific, CGS.
