Millennials in Asia Pacific online shop the most

79% of millennials in Asia Pacific shopped online in 2015, highest globally.

Millennials have surpassed baby boomers to become the largest – and most demanding – generation of consumers.

As packaging becomes one of the most effective methods of connecting with this discerning group, there is a need to pay attention to their consumption habits.

According to a 2015 research by PayPal, 79% of millennials (between ages 18 to 34) interviewed in Asia Pacific have shopped online within the past 12 months. This percentage is the highest globally. The global average is 73%.

The findings were released as part of PayPal’s latest research to uncover insights on spending habits of millennials in the region.

The survey revealed that millennials in India and China tie for the top spot of highest percentage of online shoppers at 82%.

Coming close second is Singapore, at 80%. The survey also showed that millennials in Singapore lead the Asia Pacific pack for online cross-border shopping; 69% made cross-border purchases in the past year.

The group’s inclination to digital technology drives their shopping habits and reshapes the retail space. A notable finding from the survey is a growing trend of online shopping via a mobile device. Mobile purchasing amongst millennials in Asia Pacific was the highest in the world, with 1 in 3 of cross-border purchases were made on smartphones or tablets.
