Asia leads at WorldStar Packaging Awards

Japan takes the top spot with 26 wins, followed by India with 24 awards and China with 14 awards.

At the 2018 edition of the WorldStar Packaging Awards, Japan took the top spot with 26 award wins. India followed close with 24 awards and China bagged 14 awards.

A record number of 200 winners were given the WorldStar award for the 2018 edition.

The competition is an annual event organised by the World Packaging Organisation (WPO). The international competition aims to recognise the advancement of the packaging design and technology, and create a standard of packaging excellence.

The judging session commenced in Brazil last month. The winners will be recognised in an awards ceremony and gala evening on 2 May, in Gold Coast, Australia. The 2017 awards ceremony was held in Germany during interpack.

  1. Packaging Design for Blown Glass Products

Country: Thailand

Company: Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts, Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts Rajamangala University of Technology Thanyaburi

Brand/Client: Bang Sai Royal Fold Arts and Crafts Centre

The packaging was structured to protect fragile blown glass products well. The base serves as a lock to keep the product firmly on the square packaging. The packaging can be folded when not in use.

2. Folding Mounting Paper Board for Hair Styling Oil

Country: Japan

Company: Kao Corporation

Brand/Client: Segreta

Besides being environmentally-friendly, the folding mounting paper board allowed the product to maintain good aesthetics on the shelf. Even when disturbed, the packaging will continue to be face frontal due to the fabricates triangle base which can be set up easily. There is also minimum creasing line in front.

3. Hourglass-Shaped Pouch for Healthy Snack

Country: India

Company: Uflex Limited

Brand/Client: Too Yumm by Guilt Free Industries

The hourglass-shaped pouch has been specially designed to attract consumers that are health-conscious.

4. Peacock-Inspired Wine Box

Country: China

Company: Shenzhen Baixinglong Creative Packaging Co., Ltd.

Brand/Client: Xifeng-Kaiping

Inspired by the peacock, the packaging opens up to emulate the beauty of the animal with a fully-blossomed tail.
