New EFI CEO debuts at 20th Connect Conference
From 22 to 25 January 2019, EFI celebrated the 20th anniversary of its signature event, Connect. Over three days, printing and packaging professionals from across the globe congregated at The Wynn in Las Vegas for EFI Connect 2019.
Connect 2019 was also the introductory public platform for Bill Muir, EFI’s newly appointed CEO. Muir took over leadership at EFI from Guy Gecht, who stepped down from the role in October 2018.
Addressing a roomful of Connect attendees, Muir made his opening keynote speech on 22 January, which marked his 99th day at the helm.
One of Muir’s greater messages in his keynote speech was to continue EFI’s spirit of innovation.
“Technology changes at an exponential rate, but businesses and organisations do not change at the same rate. The challenges will grow over time,” said Muir.
“My prime responsibility is in keeping the innovative engine of this company going and help enable your business to thrive in the digital age.”
Muir continued the Connect tradition of fireside chats, this time with Joseph Popolo, CEO of The Freeman Co.
Other dynamic speaker highlights include a session by Olivier Gariépy and Michel Savoie of the Cirque du Soleil costume workshop, which has been utilising EFI’s Optitex solutions to produce performance outfits. A presentation by 15-year-old fashion designer Ariel Swedroe added a unique youthful perspective to the event.

One of the bigger announcements made at Connect 2019 include the worldwide premiere of new EFI Fiery DFE technology. The new Fiery FS350 Pro will drive cut-sheet and continuous-feed digital production presses from EFI partners, as well as single-pass inkjet presses from EFI.
The exhibition floor showcased EFI hardware including the recently launched EFI VUTEk h5 hybrid LED printer and EFI VUTEk FabriVU® 340i, alongside the EFI Pro 24f flatbed and Pro 32r roll- to-roll LED printers, along with the EFI VUTEk 3r+. A VR demo stand of the EFI Nozomi C18000 inkjet press made a repeat appearance.
Each year, the annual EFI users conference aims to provide valuable insights as well as news of important digital print technology innovations.
The conference also includes more than 200 presentations and hands-on training sessions from top EFI specialists and some of print’s leading management and technology experts.
