LabelExpo kicks off today! LabelExpo Europe, which will run 24 through to 27 September in Brussels, Belgium, is set to be the largest show in its history. The exhibition also celebrates the 40th edition this year.
We scope out some show highlights and launches:
1. BOBST launches a hybrid press

BOBST’s will be launching a fully digitally integrated hybrid press, which it says will showcase the most convenient digital integration with the smallest footprint. The UV/Flexo hybrid printing machine utilises advanced printing technology heads combined with flexo groups, to provide the best productivity at the highest print quality.
The new press will deliver variable data printing and the widest colour gamut combined with a full range of value solutions such as coatings, varnishes, tactile effects, 3D effects, hot stamping, cold foil, embossing, die-cutting, punching, silk screen.
2. Xeikon to showcase new technologies

Xeikon will be presenting a range of innovations including the Label Discovery Package, an entry level system consisting of a Xeikon 3030 digital press and Dcoat converting line.
A new ‘smart label’ solution developed and created in partnership with UPM Raflatac and Magic Add. The cloud-based application enables track and trace capability for labels; it is designed to help brand owners wanting to bring labels and packaging online, they are now better able to measure the success of their campaigns or to control the supply chain.
Xeikon will also be participating in the Flexible Packaging Arena to present its new fleXflow for pouch production.
Visitors are encouraged to use the Transform platform as an advisory tool to digital printing for their Labelexpo visit.
3. Flint Group Narrow Web to showcase advancements in VIVO Colour Solutions

Flint Group Narrow Web will demonstrate the latest advances to the VIVO Colour Solutions, showcase the newest inks and coatings for food packaging applications, and unveil recent developments in the UV LED cured portfolio, including our Dual-Cure technology. The new offerings is aimed at helping converters expand their capabilities in on-press colour management, and consider business growth in short run flexible food packaging.
4. ThermoFlexX to unveil integrated prepress solution

Also at the Flint Group booth, ThermoFlexX will be introducing an integrated prepress solution for digital flexo plates that it says will be ‘revolutionary’.
5. Memjet to show DuraFlex for the first time

For the first time in public, Memjet will be showcasing the features of its new third-generation printing technology called DuraFlex. In addition, Memjet OEM partners will demonstrate an expanded range of Memjet-powered printing solutions that enable the fast, easy production of high-quality labels and packaging.
6. MPS to launch wider hybrid press

MPS and Domino are set to launch a wider version of their hybrid MPS EF SYMJET press. At Labelexpo, the new press combination will be shown for the first time. Coming in a width of 17” / 430 mm, the new Domino N617i unit is fully integrated in the established MPS EFA flexo platform.
MPS is also introducing Talk to me on all its platforms, which will be presented at Labelexpo as part of the booth’s ‘Beyond the Machine’ experience.Winners of the first MPS Label Awards will be revealed as well.
7. Miraclon to show Kodak Flexcel NX Ultra Solution

Miraclon will be showing at Labelexpo for the first time as an independent company following its branching out from Kodak. The event will mark the official European launch of the Kodak Flexcel NX Ultra Solution.
The new solution offers solvent-free, VOC-free, water-based processing that allows printers to create a press-ready plate in less than an hour. Enabled by patented Kodak Ultra Clean technology, developed by the Miraclon team, the Flexcel NX Ultra Solution is the first aqueous solution that provides consistent, high-performing flexo plates in a high volume, low maintenance environment.
8. HP to launch HP Indigo Digital Pouch Factory

At Labelexpo 2019, HP and Karlville will introduce a complete solution for HP Indigo flexible packaging production.
The HP Indigo Digital Pouch Factory concept will demonstrate a one-day pouch production process optimized for HP Indigo digital press printing. Compared to traditional methods, HP based production can be accomplished in a single shift, rather than weeks, enabling converters to profitably produce short run jobs.
9. Canon to premiere Oce LabelStream 4000 series

Canon will be introducing the new UV inkjet press Océ LabelStream 4000 series, targeted at the production of high-quality self-adhesive labels. The press will be displayed in a fully integrated single-pass hybrid label conversion line at 75 m/min, with a selection of flexo stations, cold foiling and semi-rotary die-cutting – to deliver a new level of production efficiency.
10. Heidelberg/Gallus launches Digital Printbar

Gallus unveils the new Digital Printbar at Labelexpo Europe 2019, an inkjet printing unit designed specifically for digital insetting of highly opaque, digital white.
With a printing width of 430 mm (17”), the new, shiftable Digital Printbar benefits from inkjet-based digital print technology and achieves a very high opacity similar to screen printing. Depending on the job requirements, this unit can be a highly cost-efficient alternative to conventional printing processes. Running live onsite will be two Gallus Labelmaster presses, the Gallus Labelfire and the Gallus Smartfire.
