Digital printers that level up interior decor

The home décor marketplace has a global value of almost $664 billion dollars at full retail value. Industry experts predict the market to grow 5% annually through to 2023-2024. Over the last decade, digital printing has begun to have a direct impact in interior décor.

Applications for digital printing is wide-ranging; wall coverings, floor graphics, curtains, carpets, lamp heads, furniture covers, window graphics – essentially anything in the home can be printed.

Benefits of digitally printed interior décor include virtually an unlimited range of designs, personalised production no matter the quantity, cost-efficient one-off or small scale printing, high quality prints with no colour limitations, reduction in waste and inventory and quick turnaround times and time-to-market.

We source out some of the top printers to have recently emerged in the industry.

Canon Océ Colorado 1650

The Canon Océ Colorado 1650 printer is a roll-to-roll large format device that features two innovations in the form of a new flexible Canon UVgel ink, and Océ FLXfinish technology. The Océ FLXfinish technology is a new approach to LED curing which allows the user to choose between matte or gloss modes for each individual print. This feature allows PSPs to easily achieve different aesthetic finishes at the push of a button, with just one printer and without switching media or inks. A gloss finish gives visual impact to applications such as banners and posters, while a matte appearance is particularly appealing for high quality indoor applications viewed in artificial light, such as wall coverings or premium in-store POS materials.

EFI VUTEk FabriVU 340i

The EFI VUTEk FabriVU 340i dye-sublimation printer allows direct print to fabric and sublimation inline for one-offs that are immediately ready for finishing and shipping. It offers production level speeds, outstanding image quality and inline fixation capability. The 3.4-metre super wide aqueous-based soft signage printer features EFI’s platen and extraction technology system that enables product to be sublimated inline. The inline sublimation can be turned off and paper transfer can be leveraged if off-line sublimation becomes available.

The VUTEk FabriVU 340i delivers four-colour printing, ultra-high resolution up to 2,400 dpi and four level greyscale printing at production speeds up to 250 m2 per hour. It is ideal for the production of wall coverings, furnishings, flags, banners, backlit displays, and other high-end display graphics.

HP Stitch S1000

The HP Stitch series solidified the company’s entry into the fashion, soft signage and interior décor textiles industries. Within the series, the 3.2-metre HP Stitch S1000 is a super wide dye sub production printer designed for high productivity and simplified operation. The S1000 is ideal for medium and large print service providers to boost production of textile applications in the soft signage market, including backlits, frontlits, and interior décor such as curtains, upholstery, and sofas. The 3.2-meter dye sub printer enables fast speeds, high uptime, and unattended shifts. Fully automatic maintenance ensures optimal image quality without user intervention, while saving time with easy media loading and unloading by a single operator.

Xeikon WallDeco Suite

The Xeikon WallDeco Suite is an all-in-one solution providing everything needed to cost effectively produce a wide variety of high quality, creative wall decoration products including custom illustrations and photo-murals in short runs. Depending on requirements, the centrepiece of Xeikon’s WallDeco Suite is the press, which can be the CX500, 3500, 8500 and 9000 series. The presses are driven by Xeikon’s X-800 digital front end workflow. Xeikon’s dry toners meet international safety standards and are eco-friendly and fire resistant. Each Xeikon press can handle a wide range of substrates that need no pre-treatment. Since every press prints full-rotary and endless, it’s possible to produce any kind of wall-covering application.

Kornit Presto

The Kornit Presto addresses the supply chain challenge head on. It is the world’s only industrial single-step solution for direct-to-fabric printing. The system is perfectly suited for the home décor and fashion markets. It eliminates the need for pre- and post-treatment of fabric and allows for high-quality printing on an extraordinarily broad variety of fabric types. The Kornit Presto solution uses the 100% water-free patented NeoPigment process, and is the shortest process from file to finished product, making it the most environmentally friendly solution available for direct-to-fabric textile printing today.

Mouvent TX802

Mouvent, Bobst’s digital printing arm, unveiled its textile machine, the TX802, in June 2019. The TX802 builds on the success of Mouvent’s inaugural digital textile printer, the TX801. TX802 is an eight-colour multi-pass digital textile printer with up to 2,000 dpi optical resolution, and high printing speeds of up to 100 linear m/min. It utilises Mouvent Cluster digital printing technology, which uses clusters instead of fixed size print bars by colour, arranging them in a modular, scalable matrix. The result is that one system can be adapted for all substrates, of all widths, for all markets.

Epson SC-F9430H

The Epson SureColor SC-F9430H is a 64-inch dye-sublimation printer designed for high volume printing for sports apparels, fashion apparel, home decorations, outdoor signage as well as other printed merchandise. A first for Epson, the SC-F9430H printer features printing fluorescent colours using new genuine fluorescent yellow and fluorescent pink inks. The new Epson Fluorescent Colour Collection library in Edge Print software enables colour processing for fluorescent inks, enabling more colour variation.

Mimaki Tx300P-1800 MkII

Mimaki’s Tx300P-1800 MkII is a hybrid industrial inkjet printer with sublimation dye ink and textile pigment ink simultaneously loaded, capable of printing on both paper and textile by manually switching its mechanism. This is an upgrade of the Tx300P-1800, which was not able to print on both paper and textile by itself. The Tx300P-1800 MkII can be used for various purposes including fashion/sport apparel, interior fabrics, soft signage, wall paper, and poster.
