Koenig & Bauer unveiled new Rapida 106 X
At its online Koenig & Bauer LIVE event, the press manufacturer showcased its new B1 Rapida 106 X. The LIVE event ran every weekday over what would have been the original drupa dates.
During the online event, Koenig & Bauer introduced the seven-colour double coater plus one-colour configuration targeted at packaging customers.
A configuration with an eight-unit perfector with coater for the commercial print market was also showcased on the last day of the live event.
According to Koenig & Bauer, the press was developed from scratch and can run at up to 20,000sph, making it “the fastest packaging sheetfed press on the market”. The automation is said to save 25 minutes for each job change and make-ready by optimising production schedules and job specifications.
It is equipped with a new software tool, Job Optimiser, which is a bridge between a printer’s MIS and the Logotronic press management system. The new Rapida 106 X accepts unbent plates, doing away with a step in pre-press.
Another new feature is that the simultaneous roller wash works on UV applications as well as conventional inks. The ink colours can be changed in less than two minutes, due to upgraded ink ducts.
A new cold foil module will enable foil savings, and the foiling unit has additional indexing for material saving.
The demo was done at Koenig & Bauer’s new Customer Experience Centre in Radebeul. The Rapida 106 X meant to use drupa 2020 as a launchpad. With drupa’s postponement, the company decided to launch as scheduled.
Both press configurations are expected to be on general sale from November.
