Koenig & Bauer said that it will be participating at drupa in April 2021. The announcement comes after Heidelberg announced it is not participating in the show.
"We continue to see drupa, the world's leading trade fair, as an important building block in the graphic arts industry and we see it as our responsibility to support this industry. We want to do our part to continue to provide important impulses locally in personal discussions," said Claus Bolza-Schünemann, Koenig & Bauer CEO. "We have confidence in Messe Düsseldorf's hygiene concept and in the sense of responsibility of all visitors.”
Bolza-Schünemann is also the president of drupa.
Heidelberg made their decision to pull out citing uncertainty of the global COVID-19 pandemic. The company will be focusing on in-house events. Another show dropout, Bobst, also cited similar reasons.
"Trade fairs will not be the same as they were before COVID-19, and Koenig & Bauer is also supplementing communication with its customers with virtual formats and customer-specific events, for example in our new Customer Experience Center,” added Ralf Sammeck, Koenig & Bauer board member. “Nevertheless, these formats can only convey the performance capabilities of the broad product portfolio to a limited extent. Nothing beats experiencing the latest technologies up close in action with the public and the trade fair feeling."
Meanwhile, drupa organisers, Messe Dusseldorf has released a hygiene manifesto detailing precautions it will be taking for its shows. The first trade fair is slated to occur in September.
Koenig & Bauer will be exhibiting at drupa from 20 to 30 April 2021, in Hall 16.
